DUBAI – Dubai gold rates opened higher on Friday, with retail prices holding close to recent peaks despite global bullion easing in early trade.

Rates issued by Dubai Jewellery Group showed firm demand in the local market after several days of volatility.

The move keeps Dubai gold near historic highs as investors track global economic and political developments.

Global gold markets

Internationally, spot gold slipped 0.2% on Friday to $4,469.03 an ounce, though it remained on track for a weekly gain of more than 3%. US gold futures for February traded slightly higher at $4,477.70. The dollar strengthened to near one-month highs as markets awaited US non-farm payrolls data, which is expected to show job growth of 60,000 and an unemployment rate of 4.5%.

Commodity index rebalancing has also weighed on prices, even as geopolitical risks and global debt continue to support bullion. HSBC has projected gold could reach $5,000 an ounce in the first half of 2026.

Other precious metals

In other precious metals, spot silver was at $76.83 an ounce, still close to its December record, while platinum traded at $2,250.30 and palladium at $1,785.25, with all three on track for weekly gains.
